Jacob Maxin dies in Needham.

December 16, 2012

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Maxin graduated from The Julliard School, performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and began teaching at the New England Conservatory in 1968. He moved to Boston about 10 years later, living in the Back Bay and Mission Hill. An infrequent performer, Boston Globe critic Richard Dyer once wrote that Maxim was known as “The best pianist in Boston who almost never plays in public.”
